Johnson County, MO (August 3, 2025) — An 18-year-old man from Kingsville sustained moderate injuries late Sunday night after striking a cow in the roadway, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Incident Details: The collision occurred at approximately 11:58 p.m. on Route W, south of NW 50th Road. Troopers say the driver was traveling southbound when his vehicle struck the cow. He was transported to Lee’s Summit Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. Authorities confirmed he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The investigation is ongoing and will likely seek to identify the cow’s owner and determine whether negligence in fencing or containment contributed to the incident. Evidence such as photographs from the scene, veterinary records, and witness accounts can be crucial. In Missouri, livestock owners are generally responsible for keeping their animals contained, and they can be held liable for damages if their animals cause a roadway collision.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured driver may have grounds to file a personal injury claim to recover medical expenses, lost wages, and vehicle repair costs.

I wish the injured driver a full recovery.
