Crashes involving horse-drawn buggies often leave behind serious injuries and difficult questions, especially when one driver does not remain at the scene. An April 11, 2026, collision in Parkman Township, Ohio, left several people injured after a pickup truck struck an Amish horse-drawn buggy.
What Happened on Bundysburg Road
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred in the early hours of April 11 on Bundysburg Road.
Authorities report that a 2014 white Chevy Silverado, allegedly driven by 21-year-old Danny Yoder of West Farmington, was traveling southbound when it crossed left of center and struck a northbound Amish buggy operated by 18-year-old James Miller of Middlefield Township.
The buggy was carrying three passengers—Amy Hershberger, Hannah Mullet, and Kayoa Mullet—all of Middlefield Township. All four occupants were taken to the hospital. Officials described injuries to some occupants as serious.
After the collision, the pickup driver allegedly left the scene. The horse pulling the buggy was critically injured and later euthanized.
OSHP authorities said charges are pending against Yoder. A passenger in the pickup, Nathan Hostetler, was not injured.
What Investigators Will Focus On
In a crash like this, investigators will work through the moments leading up to the impact to understand how it occurred. That typically includes examining:
- How and why the pickup crossed left of center,
- The driver’s actions just before the collision,
- Visibility conditions at the time,
- The speed and positioning of both the truck and the buggy,
- Physical evidence at the scene, and
- The driver allegedly leaving the scene.
These factors help build a clearer picture of what happened and whether the collision could have been avoided.
Can the Injured Parties Pursue Legal Action?
In a situation like this, the focus often comes down to whether someone acted negligently and whether that conduct led to the crash and resulting injuries.
If negligence is established, the injured parties may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim to recover damages related to their injuries. In cases involving serious harm, those claims can address both immediate medical needs and longer-term impacts.
The outcome ultimately depends on the full set of facts.
