Chautauqua, NY (March 29, 2025) — A 25-year-old man from Mayville was hospitalized Saturday night after his vehicle struck a cow and overturned in a rural area of Chautauqua County, according to local authorities. The incident remains under investigation.

Incident Details: The crash occurred around 10:15 p.m. as Robert Grover traveled northbound on Morris Road. Officials say a cow was standing in the roadway when Grover’s vehicle collided with it. The impact caused him to lose control, resulting in the car overturning into a ditch. Emergency responders from Chautauqua Fire transported Grover to Westfield Hospital for medical treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities continue investigating how the cow entered the roadway. In New York, livestock owners are generally responsible for securing their animals to prevent them from wandering into traffic.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the injured driver may have grounds for a personal injury claim. Such a claim could help cover the cost of medical treatment, vehicle damage, lost wages, and other losses stemming from the collision.
